Schools Out For Summer!

Looking at the OSNW3 monthly summary graphs it is evident we've had our ups and downs this year. The pattern has kept cycling, continuing the trend, just as it should. Thus far in June we've had seven days above 80 degrees, but yet remain a little more than a degree below average. We are entering the wetter pattern of this years LRC and we should expect increased chances of precipitation for the next two weeks. The CPC agrees with this idea as well. Keep up to date with the latest forecast by visiting the OSNW3 Weather Brief linked below. For a May summary click here.

Cloud Appreciation
The Cloud Appreciation Society was introduced to me a few years back and it's not often I get to shoot clouds that are unique and worthy of sharing. However, as severe weather rolled just south of Oshkosh we were given a great sunset cloud scape. Mammatus!

Temperatures: 60°+
A follow up to the previous blog entry and recorded temperatures above 60 degrees between Oct 1 and May 31. The above 60 degree tally sky rocketed as expected since May 15. Yet this year still remains the least amount of them since I starting recording data at OSNW3. 43 days experienced max temps above 60 degrees between Oct 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011. For previous years, see this blog entry.

Front Of House
Things are in full bloom around here. A very green and colorful part of the year. Gotta give props to the crew at Lakeshore Municipal Golf Course here in Oshkosh. Their environmentally friendly tactics at maintaining their golf course have proven to provide the residents of Oshkosh and beyond a truly great golf experience. The conditions this year are by far the best I've played on in all my years living in Oshkosh. Also, this week commences summer break for area K-12 teachers and students, enjoy the summer y'all!

  2. I looked at your whole series of mammatus clouds - what a catch. I don't recall ever seeing that type of cloud around here yet, when we lived in SE Texas I do recall them.

You are right, this is the time of year to for clouds and cloud development...

  3. Bob, yes the clouds hung around for over 20 minutes. I am sure you had your fair share in TX.

Not a cloud photographic day today. 50's and rain. Low dark clouds. Not much to see...

  4. Wow great pictures Josh, The sunset one is amazing, I was also happy to see the basswood tree in your backyard looks great and is full of seeds! Have you ever watched those fly out of the tree? It's amazing the way those seeds are crafted!

  5. D, that basswood is amazing and yes the fruit are cleverly crafted and because of the multiple sheds of a basswoods I am always cleaning up the yard.

  6. Love the cloud pics. Just curious, we have had a recent round of storms which have produced some equally gorgous mammatus clouds. This seems strange for this part of the country for this time of the year.

  7. SuzieE, thanks. I still need to check out your photos! I don't think anything is strange for any time of year. Normal is just that. Abnormal. I've got real things growing my garden and have eaten the lettuce. It's truly summer when the garden is producing some eats.
