Back To Reality

Image
Personally I've missed April as it has been acting a bit like May or June the past two weeks. Temperatures are finally down to average marks and some actual weather has been sited. The weather is in the form of rain and wind . Once again April has surpassed a 3" monthly precipitation total as it has the past two years . Things in this area of the state are in good shape moisture wise unlike our neighbors to the Northwest . Even though the temperatures are back to average or below average values we are still quite a bit above as April 2010 is currently the 2nd warmest of all-time in Oshkosh with a monthly mean temperature of 52.0 degrees here at OSNW3. Addendum: Lake fly hatch sited near Lake Winnebago the morning of Apr 26, 2010. Swarms of them along the lake and above the road, following Cty A from Oshkosh to Neenah. Earliest hatch in 50 years I am told. For an article written by Doug Zellmer of the ONW click here . ( OSNW3 Weather Brief ) ( OSNW3 April Observations )

Cooler By The Lake

April has been amazing thus far. Currently the warmest April ever in Oshkosh's history with no end of the above average temperatures in site. I am fearful of a turnaround plaguing the area with the same temperature extremes in the opposite direction next month. That would certainly disrupt what April has been brewing. As for precipitation, we are one tenth of an inch below average. It was 61 when I left Sheboygan at 5pm on Apr 14. When I got to Fond Du Lac at 530 it was 82. My car thermometer told me so. Early Spring 101

Image
This past week was a great lesson for those who are unfamiliar with Spring in this region. It featured our first thunderstorms since last August and our second snow of the Spring season here at OSNW3. The thunderstorms had heavy downpours embedded in them that brought minor street/field flooding. Over an inch and a half of rain was recorded for the 24hr period ending Apr 7. The snow, which accumulated over three inches, provided a peaceful winter scene for a half of day before it melted off. With the warmth of March and the beginning of April thus far, I foresee cool times ahead during the month of May. In the nearer future though, forecasts call for seasonable weather with a couple Summer like days squashed between it all. April Begins With Record Warmth

Image
Since Mar 21, here at OSNW3, March 2010 moved up the ladder two spots to finish as the 10th all-time warmest March on record. See complete rankings here . We stayed put in the precip / snow category as nothing fell since Mar 21. While the days moved from March to April the temperatures sky rocketed with the max temp on Apr 2 reaching 83.4 at OSNW3 breaking the all-time max temp record for Oshkosh that day by more than 4 degrees. The following day on Apr 3 the max temp rose to 76.7 at OSNW3 nearly tying the record of 77 for that day. Complete daily records for Oshkosh can be found here . Looking ahead the HPC has a relatively large QPF for our area this week. We may even hear a rumble of thunder.
