Major Winter Storm - Dec 19-21, 2012

A Blizzard Warning was in effect for most of the day Thursday, Dec 20. Forecast snow totals from 9PM Dec 19 are shown below. Click image for more information from the National Weather Service Green Bay. Updates from OSNW3 are below and dated. OSNW3 Webcam. Great work, NWS GRB, the countless hours of computer model interpreting did a wonderful job predicting snow totals in Oshkosh. Total snow at OSNW3 was 12.2", forecast just hours before the snow started falling was 14.5".

1.0" more measured at 07:01. The snow came down lightly for a few more hours after the last observation last night. The winds were strongest at OSNW3 around 11PM but haven't been that gusty since.

2.0" more measured at 20:26. The consistency of the snow is changing as night falls and the winds pick up. Light snow continues to fall. Winds are blowing considerably. Usually during this next portion of a snowstorm any new accumulation of snow will not come from a measurement on the snowboard. It will likely come from the 9 snowdepth measurements. Current snowdepth measurements around the station (7,7.5,8.5,9,10,10.5,10.5,10.5,9.5)

1.8" more measured at 14:18. The snow is extremely heavy and sticky and sinking under it's own weight. Light snow continues to fall. Winds have picked up considerably. Large piles of snow are displaced throughout my drive due to being blown out of the pine trees that line it. With the blowing snow a different approach to snowdepth will be taken. 9 measurements around the station. (7,7,8,8.5,9,9,10,10,8.5)

We have been outside most of the time since the first observation. Snowfall maintained a moderate rate. Closer to the observation time winds began to pick up and had a more noticeable gust. 2.2" more measured at 10:30. The snow is extremely heavy and sticky. Moderate snow continues to fall. Beginning to get nasty out there with the addition of the wind.

The snow began at 23:20 last night. It has been a moderate to heavy snow since. 5.2" measured at 07:07 this morning. Snow is heavy and sticky. Winds are mainly light with some brief gusts. Moderate snow continues to fall.
