What was awesome about this storm? It was a pleasant surprise to me! The previous time through the cycle, Dec 31 - Jan 1, much of the precipitation dissipated as it moved through WI and it was mainly rain. Same storm, majorly different outcomes! Click the link above and then click the linked precipitation amounts for the dates mentioned above to see what the storm looked like on radar last cycle.

If anyone is reading this, please visit the St. Cloud State University Post Storm Survey site and take the survey. It takes about two minutes. I believe to get the link to work you will need to copy and paste it into your browser!

  1. Glad to see snow falling on Oshkosh again! I was shocked to see the GRB site showing 7-12 inches for WI. We've been enjoying 50-70 degree weather, so snow has been in the back of my mind lately.

Looking forward to more updates. Enjoy!

  2. Hey WxWatcher, yes, it has been quite the mild spell. It didn't take long for our double digit snow pack to melt down to a Trace. It is also not taking long to get our snow pack back up to some typical February depths. Which is more my style, especially this time of year.

My Father in-law took a 5 mile walk today in those spring time temps you've been dealing with...

  3. BTW, I noticed early bulb plants (not sure what) poking out of the soil at McDonalds this morning. They're about 1" tall!

I've dusted off the fly fishing gear. I'm officially ready for spring.

  4. WxWatcher, how long did your double digit snow pack last? I am pretty sure it's gonna snow down your way another time or two before Old Man Winter goes into hibernation for another season. Have you ever been on or in the water fishing while it was snowing?

  5. 11.00" new inches of snow up here. Back to winter I guess!

  6. D, mother nature had to cover up your sprouts and tell them to relax, spring is still 2 months away. :)

  7. We had 11 days with a double-digit snow pack. That ended a 32-day run of days with a snow pack. That rarely happens here. I was pretty cool.

On the water in the snow...hmm. I don't think I have. I've never considered it before, but I'd love to try it, especially hip-deep in one of our great trout rivers. Thanks OSNW3, that's going on my list!

I agree with your snow prediction. Statistically we see one or two more snows after a brief spring "teaser" like we just experienced. Just a sign of things to come for the brewing battle of airmasses in the next few months.
