June Continues The Pleasantry

Warm and humid air finally made a move north after a long stretch of wet and seasonally cool days. Dewpoints here at OSNW3 reached 70° late in the week giving a sultry feel to the property. However, with the recent warmer temps we are still 1.1° below the monthly mean temperature, recording a mean temp of 66.3 through 7am on Jun 20. Same in the precipitation department. Through 7am on Jun 20 we are 0.09" below the monthly average of 3.66". It is likely OSNW3 will top the precipitation average in the coming days though. An Active June?
From what I can tell, it's been an active month so far. From all the rainy days we've had here in Oshkosh to all the crazy storms that get air time on TWC. Justifying the fact is this months USA radar images. To see the loop starting Jun 1 through early am on Jun 20, click here. (54MB) There are a few gaps in the data early in the month with the largest being a 10 hour gap on the 3rd.

Garden Update
A couple entries ago SuzieE asked about the garden... "What variety of tomatoes do you have?". I've been meaning to document the types for over a week now, so here goes. We've got the ordinary Red Cherry, a Caspian Pink, a Mr. Stripey, and a Mountain Fresh.

  1. OSNW3,
Nice Garden spot! We have never tried Mountain Fresh tomatoes.
June in TN has been like August and we mow grass once a week but a few times it could have been 5 days between grass cuttings.
BTW, during our family vacation to WY and MT, we came upon a little town called Oshkosh NE. Also we ran into the National Severe Weather Laboratory in South Dakota.

  2. SuzieE, I'll certainly let you know how they are once they're ready. I've heard of Oshkosh, NE. What was it like as you drove through? Pretty cool to see the Severe Wx Lab... lots of fancy Dopplers and such on the property?

  3. OSNW3, Oshkosh, NE is a rural town. We didn't stay around long because a cattle farm was close by. We did eat lunch at the Kwikstop there. We also drove by the Cabella"s return center.
The Severe Wx Lab was mobile-any weather geeks dream van.

  4. Did anyone experience flooding over the weeknd?

Our roads were under water and neighbors have u[ y[ two feet of sump and sewer back up. (Again.)
    Ugh.

  5. CJ, we were in GB Fri and Sat nights. Something happened at the house though, as my webcam and ethernet port on the server died. I am baffled. It all happened between 1am and 3am on the 27th. That I do know.

As far as flooding, we did not have any flooding in our basement and it would seem nothing of that sort happened on my block. However, when we had the 5"+ dumping in 2008 we didn't have that much standing water in the basement either. These heavy rains have been frequent the past couple of years. Recalling the data I put together for Main Street Oshkosh a few months back it seems to come in clumps.

I hope the waters subside quickly and the clean up efforts go smooth.

  6. OSNW3-
There was a short power outtage during that time on the 27th. That would explain the webcam and ethernet. (In case you were wondering)
Weren't the digital displays on your clocks blinking?

    ReplyDelete
  7. CJ, none of our four digital clocks were blinking. Granted three of them have battery backup, the one that doesn't was not blinking. Seems we did not lose power over here. We may have had some power surge go through my webcam and then through the enet into the house surging the enet port on the computer. Who knows. The computers enet card has been moved to a working port, but the webcam is still under some maintenance. The webcam is over three years old...

I did hear that it was one heck of a light show though. A teller at PnS said it lightninged for 45 minutes w/o thunder.

  8. A pleasant June you've been experiencing, indeed OSNW3! Your mean temp as of this post was a full 10 degrees below our June mean. I look forward to seeing your report on the rest of the month. I could get used to the nice weather we've had lately. After a long stretch of temps in the 90s, it cooled down a bit and dried out. The NW breeze made it feel and smell like fall. Got me thinking about school even!

Garden looks great! Your peppers are looking healthy. What are they?
