Mid May

We had a few boisterous thunderstorms roll through mid-week, but for the most part, last week was quite. Late in the week a cold front dropped day time highs 10+ degrees and ushered in strong winds that made it feel considerably cooler than the day before. As far as the green-up is considered, we're nearing 100%.

I was in the UP for a few days participating in an annual golf trip. We started out in Iron Mountain, then headed to Marquette, and finished in Harris. Weather was perfect for this time of year. 60's and sunny both Thursday & Friday (May 14-15), but then on Saturday things took a huge turn for the worse. Northwest winds sustained themselves over 20 mph with gusts in the 30s. Temps were in the low 40's making it feel darn cold. It was brutal but we persevered! A highlight of the trip was hanging in Marquette for a spell after golf. We trekked around Presque and snapped a few photos. To our surprise we spotted a couple spots with snow/ice remaining! 1. Boy, you guys are die-hard golfers. I don't mind cold weather, but when you mix in the wind of 20-30 mph, that's it for me. That reminds me of a fishing trip I took two years ago on the Lake of the Ozarks in early spring. It was exactly as you described Saturday's weather, except the wind was blowing water into our boat spraying us every time a wave would hit. We were soaked by the time we stopped...but a quick stop to an all you can eat diner was our reward.

    Yard's lookin good!

  2. WxWatcher. Yep, we're crazy. I can relate to your fishing trip. BRRR. Being wet and cold is not fun, and being on the water magnifies any and all conditions.

I need to cut the grass again...

  3. SOOOO jealous that you make it to Marquette so often. I love going out to Presque Isle -- or as we call it, "The Island". We are hoping to get up there this summer to see my great uncle who isn't doing great.

  4. Whoa, now that's what I call xtreme golfing! :) I can remember a similar fishing experience!

Agreed, the yard looks very nice!

    lol

what's this point system you are talking about on the videos? 5 points for hitting the rope seems high. :)

  6. Chris, I hope when you make up to MQT this Summer that it's to visit your Great Uncle who is doing well. Now that I'm reading the "Superior Heartland" every step I take around the area has intensified two fold. While golfing at Greywalls in Marquette last week I couldn't help but dream of a time long ago and the people who were here before me with each step. I won't even get started about Presque and Lil' Presque and the rolls they played for the inhabitants. AH! I can't wait to go back.

Scout, extreme isn't the half of it. And about the lawn... it's full of craters from the squirrels and rabbits. It's not one of those plush suburban lawns. :)

    Dew, me too!

sk0, glad you checked out the photos. :) 5 points seems low for hitting a rope? What are the odds of hitting a rope? Pretty low, which means higher points. We were playing a game called Trouble (Frey's choice). In the game of Trouble the player with the least "trouble" points wins 3 points for the round. Each person chose an event to play and score. Each event was weighted equally per round by points. Person with the most points after the 3 rounds won. Winner take all. I am sure this makes no sense. ;)
