An Arctic Outbreak

This past week, we here at OSNW3 experienced the coldest air of the season. An Arctic outbreak occurred for 4 straight days. More details on the outbreak are below. Precipitation wise, we were quite dry, even though it precipitated on 5 of 7 days. Already, this January has as many Days with Measurable Snow as last January. However, the amount of snowfall this January is much lower then last, as last January saw 23.3" fall in 10 total days and this January only 5.3" in 10 total days. An 18" difference. Arctic Outbreak
The cold air plunged into the area on Jan 14. The lowest temp recorded at OSNW3 during this event was -13.2°F which became the all-time lowest temp ever recorded at OSNW3. Warmth returned on Jan 17 and as it was, it wasn't all that bad down here. (compared to the Northland)

+8/+11/+1/+10
-2/-13/-13/-13 (We were not below zero for over 24 hours)

(Outdoor Temperature Gauge (unofficial) - Jan 16 @ Observation)

Below is my version of "taking a cup of boiling hot water and hoisting it into the air as hard, fast and high as you can, and it will become an instant cloud of vapor".

The experiment was conducted in Oshkosh, WI on Friday, Jan 16, 2009 between 6:30 and 7:00am. Temperature was -13°F. Please see the full video HERE (6MB).

Front Of House
A few inches of fluffy snow fell this past week making the FOH slightly different looking then last week.

  4. Dew, your poor toes. Get some of those toe warmer heat packs. Your toes will burn with heat. :) My word verification for this comment will be "woolyst". WOO!

Derek, indeed we garden. We inherited a plethora of plants around the house when we bought the place. I'll take some photos this growing season. Our garden is in the back... and supports my late season salsa urge. :)
