Aeolian Processes

This past week temperatures again hovered below average for the most part and precipitation fell on 3 of 7 days. An almost carbon copy of last week regarding temps and precip with the only major difference being the wind. The rain is much needed as we are currently still in a slight drought situation.

High pressure brings east winds on Lake Michigan
A large high pressure dominated the area on Wednesday and Thursday of this past week, bringing with it some moderately strong east/southeast winds. I happened to be in Sheboygan, WI for work both days and was able to spend some time on the west shores of Lake Michigan. Thursday packed a better punch then Wednesday. If I remember correctly the sustained winds on Thursday were hovering around 20mph. More photos and videos are located in the OSNW3 Web Album. (Lake Michigan, Oct 22, 2008)

Color Report
My Mother was in town this past Saturday and she commented on how "green" the trees looked down here compared to where she lives in Suamico, WI (a northern suburb of Green Bay, if you will). It's a legit observation. There are a few trees around the area that are still indeed "green", but then there are trees that are bare. The tree across the street has reached it's peak, and that is obvious. Keep up on the latest color changes state wide from Travel Wisconsin Fall Color Report.

  3. HAHA! Dew, I don't think today will be the first snowfall. Bright blue sunny skies and the winds have subsided. I believe we're in for a warm up. :)

  4. The photos of Lake Michigan are really nice! guessing when the first 1 inch is going to be in Oshkosh thats sounds like a fun idea!

  5. Thank you Derek. Both days were nice and windy. I love being out by the big lakes on windy days... more so Superior, but I'll take Michigan as a consolation any day. Besides, Michigan is a whole lot closer.

I suggest you make a prediction for OSNW3. I think we (you, me, Nathan, Scout, etc) should predict for each of our respected locations as well. Just for fun of course... :)

  7. Dew, The First "actual" day of winter is a collaboration effort of mine and Nathan's (Northern Wisconsin Weather) thoughts. Definitions can be found here for the instance of OSNW3. Thanks for participating! How fun! Hopefully you get the chance to snap some shots of the Halloween sky and the nights following.

  8. Oh, what the hay... let's put the proverbial "first day of winter" as December 25. 1" snow on Thanksgiving. "Winter" on Christmas. :O)
