The words below were originally written for The Greater Oshkosh Editions of the Scene Newspaper ---- Shortly after I moved to Oshkosh in 1996 I realized how arousing it would become living here, on the water. Each day I admire our water landscape feeling truly fortunate to call Oshkosh home. The great amount of water resources that border or flow through our city demand respect and continual maintenance and care. Each time rain falls from the sky or a snowpack melt, the water that runs off our roofs, driveways, and yards flow into storm water sewers and creeks that eventually flow directly into the Fox River and Lake Winnebago. There are an outstanding amount of factors that contribute to a storm water management system. However, ultimately it is the amount of rain that falls on a particular area that brings the land use and soil types to a cohesive head preventing storm water runoff from entering our waterways. Spring fever is in full bloom. I've been stricken with the fever, but I will admit I am not ready. This feeling leaves me with some sort of yard clean up anxiety that I cannot completely comprehend. Maybe it's the fact that I just don't want to give up the snugness my winter hat gives me. Regardless, temperatures for the month of March thus far are way above average as one would expect, 7.4 degrees above the mean average (81-10) to be exact. Based on the temperature trend projected by Lezak's Recurring Cycle theory , this warmer than average trend should last until the end of the month when a few shots of colder air are likely. When last week hit it's mid point, May 2010 had the feel of late March. By the time this coming week hits it's mid point, May 2010 will have the feel of early June. We've certainly been on the normal May roller coaster ride thus far, but as I type this, I cannot ask for better weather for this time of year. Temperatures in the mid 60's with plenty of sunshine and light winds. The garden has been tilled, the brush has been sized and burned, and the basswood in the back yard is flowering and starting to show it's fruit. Summer is approaching. Since Mar 21, here at OSNW3, March 2010 moved up the ladder two spots to finish as the 10th all-time warmest March on record. See complete rankings here . We stayed put in the precip / snow category as nothing fell since Mar 21. While the days moved from March to April the temperatures sky rocketed with the max temp on Apr 2 reaching 83.4 at OSNW3 breaking the all-time max temp record for Oshkosh that day by more than 4 degrees. The following day on Apr 3 the max temp rose to 76.7 at OSNW3 nearly tying the record of 77 for that day. Complete daily records for Oshkosh can be found here .
