To the summer time standard in Wisconsin, July began cool. Summer quickly got back on track however. The month steadied as warmer temperatures moved in. A mini heat wave soon followed and Oshkosh recorded five consecutive days with high temperatures at or above 90 degrees. Overnight temperatures were warm as well. On the 19th the low temperature only fell to 77 degrees, placing it as the tenth all-time warmest low temperature in Oshkosh history for the month of July. The heat broke on the 20th and ushered in pleasant outdoor conditions. After seven days of daily highs in the 70s, temperatures took free fall. An unseasonably cool air mass muscled in. Combined with clouds and wind, day time temperatures struggled to maintain readings in the 60s. High temperatures on the 27th and 28th of the month were the coldest ever recorded for those dates. Precipitation ended below average for the month. The official rain gauge for the city tallied 2.55 inches, which is over an inch below average...

After the first ten days of June, Oshkosh was on pace to become the all-time coolest. At that time, June of 1969 was just one tenth of a degree warmer. Odds of maintaining that type of chill were bleak. Temperatures began to warm as the month moved forward. Half of the final twenty days recorded highs above 80 degrees. In the end 2013 proved no match. Officially Oshkosh finished with a mean temperature of 67 degrees, 7 degrees warmer than 1969. Precipitation totaled 4.36 inches at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is slightly above the 4.17 inch average. Of the 14 days with recorded precipitation, at OSNW3 we noted 6 of these events accompanied thunderstorms. The greatest 24hr total for the month occurred on the 15th when 1.47 inches were recorded. This event was special as all of the rain fell in a 2 hour span between 8 and 10PM. The "hills" pushed daytime high temperatures above average. Five of those days recorded temperatures over 80 degrees. The "dips" delivered overnight low temperatures in the 30s. Ice pellets were spotted falling from the sky late morning on May 11 and a freeze occurred overnight on May 13. The average last freeze in Oshkosh is April 26. Precipitation occurred on 14 days, totaling 4.73 inches of rain. Of these days, three were accompanied with thunderstorms, both during the second half of the month. The highest 24 hour rain total occurred on May 22-23 when 1.75 inches was recorded. The ice pellets go down as a Trace of snowfall, which is the Oshkosh average snowfall for May. April 2013 finished with a mean temperature of 40.6 degrees officially, the 13th coldest in Oshkosh history. OSNW3 finished the month at 39.7 degrees which places within the top 10. The coldest April in Oshkosh history occurred in 1907 when the mean temperature was 37.1 degrees. Precipitation was abundant. 4.20 inches fell at the Waste Water Treatment plant putting the official total in the top 20 all-time. OSNW3 recorded 15 days with precipitation; 1 of those days totaled 2.11 inches while the remaining 14 totaled 2.08 inches. Since 2007 OSNW3 has averaged 4.24 inches of precipitation in the month of April, 147% of the Oshkosh 30 year average. These extraordinary feats cannot go into the history books without a mention of snowfall. While the amount measured at OSNW3 is outside the top 20 (tied for 25th) the amount of days with measurable snowfall tops the list. At OSNW3 March finished 6.8 degrees below the Oshkosh average which was 20.9 degrees colder than last year . Precipitation and snowfall were both above the Oshkosh average, tallying 2.27 inches and 7.0 inches respectively. Only three days in March experienced average high temperatures, and those days were consecutive, March 9th-11th. With a 25.5 degree monthly mean temperature, March 2013 ranks as the 10th all-time coldest March in Oshkosh history. Oshkosh residents have endured a fair share of snow this winter. Nearly doubling the long term average snowfall for meteorological winter (Dec, Jan, Feb). Officially, the Waste Water Treatment Plant has recorded 48.7 inches of snow. Stations on the north and south sides of the city have recorded 39.3 and 61.0 inches respectively. At OSNW3, a mile east of the WWTP, we recorded 57.1 inches. These are very respectable amounts. Any amount over 48 inches is in the Oshkosh top ten of all-time for a meteorological winter season.
